My name is Jake. I moved to USA since I was in elementary school. I lived in the USA for 17 years. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa.
“What is the best way to improve my English?” is the most often question I get asked. And why shouldn’t my friends ask me that question. After all, who else has experienced the struggles of trying to learn a new language than myself. READ MORE, is what I often scream at them. From my personal experiences, reading provides the greatest benefits to improving the language.
The first book I’ve ever read in English was Henry and Mudge, a story about a boy and his giant dog. I was in fifth grade and had no prior knowledge of English. I couldn’t spell the ABCs to be honest. My teacher was patient with me, and not long after, did I not only finished the book, but I went on to numerous other books with higher difficulty. With each passing book; my vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and mostly importantly, my confidence grew with it.
Soon I graduated from that elementary school and said goodbye to my teacher, but I carried the habit of reading with me. I went on to successfully go to high school and majored in a degree of my choice in college.
